How to Measure a Bedroom Bed

How to measure your bed for Bed Sheets, Bed Spreads, and blankets.

Image Line Arrow Key:

  • Length: Measure from the top (head) of the mattress while keeping a straight, flat line and pulling the tape measure to the bottom of the mattress.
  • Width: Measure across the widest part of the bed from left to right, again creating a line that is straight and flat over the mattress.
  • Height/Depth: Measure from the top of your box spring up to any mattress toppers or padding. Round up to the nearest inch. Depth can vary greatly and affects how your fitted sheet pocket will fit for.

For Most Bedspreads you want it to fall to the floor make sure to add an extra measurement from the top of the bed down to the floor and add that to the total measurement, also remember there are two side that the bed spread needs to fall to.

For Bed Sheets it does not matter if your mattress size is standard height/deep or higher most bed sheets are all deep pocket which means it will fit anything up to 14 inches of depth. The same sheets can be used for standard size mattresses and will just need more tuck under the mattress pad.
